Bring Colour to Your Garden with Everlastings

Everlastings - also known as paper daisies - are among Australia’s most iconic and rewarding native wildflowers. These vibrant, hardy annuals are easy to grow and perfect for mass displays, roadside plantings, revegetation, and home gardens.

Nindethana offers a wide range of everlasting species and mixes, carefully selected for colour, reliability, and performance.

When to sow everlastings?

  • Best sowing time: Autumn (March–May), after reliable rainfall or with supplemental watering.
  • In drier areas, sow as early as February if irrigation is available.
  • In colder climates, sow before the first frosts end.

Growing conditions

  • Light: Full sun.
  • Soil: Prefers well-drained soils. Avoid heavy clay unless amended.
  • Water: Moderate watering needed until establishment.

How to sow

  1. Prepare the site
Remove weeds and lightly cultivate or rake the soil surface. A fine, well-drained soil bed works best.
  2. Scatter seed evenly
For large areas, mix seed with dry sand for easier distribution.
  3. Press seed into soil
Do not bury deeply. Seeds should sit just under the surface or be lightly raked in (1–2 mm depth).
  4. Water lightly
Use a fine spray to avoid displacing seed. Keep soil moist during germination.

Soil

Should be cultivated to a fine tilth and totally weed free for optimum results. Surface sow & rake in very lightly, not all seeds need to be covered. At the most, seeds should only be buried a few millimetres. If not that well prepared, turn soil over freshly & direct seed onto the rough surface, but do not harrow or rake in afterwards

Flowering & lifespan

  • Most everlastings flower 10–12 weeks after sowing.
  • Peak flowering occurs in late winter to early summer, depending on species and region.
  • Everlastings are annuals - allow some to set seed for future regeneration.

Tips for success with everlastings

  • Sow on a weed-free site to avoid competition.
  • Protect seedlings from slugs and snails early on.
  • Consider sowing mixes with staggered bloom times for extended colour.
  • Keep seeded area free from animals & other foot traffic.
